Industry participation needed for Construction Career Day

On December 8th, over 600 high school students and adults from the southwestern Pennsylvania region are expected to participate in the third annual Southwestern PA Construction Career Day event. The event, sponsored by both CAWP and APC, will serve to provide high school students, educators, and adults with an overview of exciting and diverse career path opportunities in the Highway and Bridge Design, Construction, and Maintenance fields, while improving the overall image of the industry.

Planned activities and displays include heavy equipment demonstrations, testing materials, survey and GPS equipment, welding, use of safety equipment, concrete finishing, and career informational booths. Groups of students are escorted by construction industry volunteers throughout the day.

The event will occur at the Western Area Career and Technology Center in Canonsburg, PA. The career day is from 9 am – 1:30 pm and the adult job fair is from 2 pm – 4 pm.

Interested parties are encouraged to participate in this event in one of the following ways:

    • o   Heavy equipment displays and/or operation
    • o   Demonstrations / Hands-on activities
    • o   Informational booths on construction careers
    • o  Volunteer as a student guide
